My daughter is about to turn 10! Her best friend turned 10 a few weeks ago and they wanted to have a joint birthday party. They are the sweetest of friends so of course it was an easy choice. Mallie and Maddy met before the start of third grade when Mallie was new to our school and was matched with my daughter as her new student sponsor. It was an instant friendship that has continued to grow. They are so sweet and caring and funny and smart. They encourage each other and I am so happy my daughter has a wonderful friend like Mallie.
I haven't told my daughter yet that next year, she wont be attending the same school she has been at since VPK. I've said before that my youngest is autistic and we just found out that he will not be going into mainstream general education. Our current school doesn't offer an option for him and I can't be at two drop offs at the same time. So my daughter is about to become a new student at a new school filled with new kids. She wont have her Mallie every day. Or her Anna. Or her many other friends. I know she will make new friends and I know her friendship with Mallie wont end. But my heart hurts to tell her the news. I cry thinking she wont be able to do the 5th grade clap out with kids I've watched grow up beside her.
So, for now, we will cherish the wonderful friendship with this sweet girl. We will celebrate them turning 10 and listen to the giggles and songs and watch as their friendship grows.
