What to wear for your family photo session seems overwhelming I’m sure. I am here to help you! Here are some quick tips that I find super helpful and easy. My main goal with our session is for you to relax and enjoy this process and look back at it as a fun time with your family.
Make it as dressy or as casual as you want. This is your session after all and you want to be comfortable. If you are comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, by all means that is what you should wear. You want to be able to relax and not think about your clothes during the session.
You do not need to match your outfits exactly. Instead aim for the same color to carry throughout the outfits. Maybe have the males in one color group and the females in a different color. Last time I did family photos, I had the boys coordinate by wearing a black and white plaid shirt, a black polo shirt and a dark grey polo shirt.
Look at how this family coordinated their outfits.
It seems crazy-but form fitting clothing looks better in photos. When you wear loose fitting clothing, it doesn’t sit well against your body and instead may make you appear larger.
If there is some special momento, bring it to the session. Maybe it’s a family heirloom necklace you want to wear or a special ring, or blanket. Let me know so we can get some special shots with it.
Consider getting your hair and makeup done for the session. If you can’t fit that into your schedule, apply your makeup a bit darker than you normally would and avoid shimmery or glittery eye or face makeup.
